First UK edition of two stories by Russian author and philosopher Leo Tolstoy (here spelled Tolstoi), illustrated by noted Scottish graphic artist H.R. (Harold Robert) Millar, best known for his illustrations of fairy tales for Strand Magazine as well as his work accompanying the writings of Rudyard Kipling and E. Nesbit. The two religious themed stories included, What Men Live By and What Shall It Profit A Man?, were first published in Russian in 1885 and 1886, respectively,
