Description

First American Edition of The Secret Tradition of Alchemy by Arthur Edward Waite

Waite, A.E. The Secret Tradition of Alchemy. Alfred A Knopf. New York. 1926. First US Edition.

First American edition of British occult researcher Arthur Edward Waite’s survey of western alchemy, released simultaneously and in near facsimile to the Paul Kegan first UK edition. Waite was originally contracted to write The Secret Tradition of Alchemy, which takes a nonspiritual approach to pre-Renaissance alchemy, in 1924, but his progress was delayed by the death of his wife that same year. It remains, “the only accessible study of the occult ramifications of alchemy in the 18th century,” per Waite’s bibliographer, R.A. Gilbert.

Gilbert, A39b.
