Rare Roycroft Published Account of the Masonic “Murder” Of William Morgan The Morgan Episode In American Free Masonry By Stanley Upton Mock
Mock, Stanley Upton. The Morgan Episode in American Free Masonry. The Roycrofters. East Aurora, New York. 1930. First Edition.
Rare copy of The Morgan Episode American Freemasonry by Stanley Upton Mock, an account of the mystery of William Morgan, the Batavia, New York Freemason who disappeared under duress after promising to publish the fraternity’s secret rituals, codes, and ciphers. Widely believed to have been murdered, “The Morgan Affair” was one of the inciting incidents for the popular American Anti-Masonic movement. The author, Mock, was a Batavia-based Presbyterian minister and mason who compiled this account from original research, claiming Morgan was not killed but fled to Canada. Of particular interest, this book was published by The Roycrofters of East Aurora, important creative workshop of the Arts and Crafts movement founded by Elbert Hubbard, and is printed on laid paper with their watermark.
Two copies found in OCLC as of June 2024.
