Description
Scarce true first edition of The Living Constitution designed by Eugene Connett of Derrydale Press.
The Living Constitution. A Consideration of the Realities and Legends of Our Fundamental Law by Howard Lee McBain. New York: The Workers Education Bureau Press. 1927. First edition, first printing.
Rare early work from the founder of the Derrydale Press Eugene Connett, The Living Constitution was created on behalf of the Worker’s Education Bureau, during the first year of Derrydale’s operation. Although 5000 copies of The Living Constitution were printed, only 1000 hard copies and 1000 in wraps are believed to have been released ahead of the 1928 Macmillan reissue using the same sheets.
Derrydale Press, which Eugene Connett operated from 1926 to 1942, is best remembered for its beautiful and highly collectable books on sport, fishing, hunting, and the outdoors.
8vo, 289pp + 3ads, brown cloth boards with title sticker affixed to spine. Minor scuffing with a diagonal scrape to front board and a half inch diagonal scrape to back. Some fading toward edges. Wear to spine ends. Bookblock darkened. Minor toning to pages. Third free endpaper and half-title slightly dogeared with minor dirt to corner of title page beneath. Very good condition.
