Description

A thoroughly photo – illustrated palmistry guide teaching the fortune telling techniques of palm reading by William G Benham.

Benham, William G. The Laws of Scientific Hand Reading : A Practical Treatise On The Art Commonly Called Palmistry. GP Putnam’s Sons : New York & London. First edition, 7th printing, January 1912.

This excellently illustrated instructional palm reading guide book provides a full picture of the “science” of palmistry, tackling everything from how a person holds and carries their hands to the various planetary mounts showing the influence of forces from Jupiter, Venus and other heavenly objects, as well as a thorough explanation for well over a hundred different hand lines.

Written by William G Benham of Columbus, Ohio, the book’s introduction ends with the warning that it provides no index as the science of palm reading relies on all interpreting all the facets the hand in tandem.

Although not as well remembered today as other famous writer palm readers like Cheiro (Louis John Warner) or Nellie Simmons Meier, Benham was a major influence on the divination practice’s development and spread at the turn of the 20th century. Especially interesting is this book’s use of full photographs of identified individuals palms which would be used to great effect in Meier’s 1937 collection of cultural and historically important palm prints Lions’ Paws for which Benham wrote the introduction.
