Description

Scarce original pamphlet from the fringe Megiddo Mission Church of Rochester, “The Devil and Hell of the Bible”.

[Nichols, L.T.] The Devil and Hell of the Bible. The Megiddo Mission Church : Rochester, NY. Undated, later printing.

This text from the Megiddo Mission Church offers perspectives on the Devil and Hell taken from etymological study of the Bible in Greek and Hebrew. Divided into two parts, one for each subject, the text argues that Hell is not literal and the soul is not immortal, though the Devil is both.

The Megiddo Mission Church, founded by Reverend L.T. Nichols, is a still-extant congregation unto itself with a unique theological outlook connected to no other Christian group which places scriptural interpretation above all else. Originally based in Nichols’ native Midwest before a Megiddo Steamship was christened on the Mississippi river, Nichols and his followers settled in Rochester in 1904 where the Megiddo Church can still be found today.
