Romano, Clare and Summer, Evan. The Collagraph : A New Print Medium. Pratt Graphics Center : New York. c. 1975.
A uniquely modern printing form, collagraph ( from the words “collage” and “graph”, “collage writing”) utilizes mixed media to create free form printing “plates” for the creation of unique, often organic design. Refined and named by the artist and educator Glen Alps in the 1950s, this Pratt Graphics Center Gallery exhibition was among the first to highlight the the use of collagraph and includes two essays on the form’s history along with selections in both black and white and color of highlights from the 1975 – 1976 gallery show.
In keeping with the Alps’ belief in the collagraph as an easy to use printing form ideal for inspiring and teaching others, this short text also includes a full set of photo instructions for creating your own prints in the collagraph method.
Oblong 8vo,16pp, staple bound with flexible printed card wraps. Rubbing with two small losses from wrap lower corner. Small margin foxing to title and pg 16. Illustrated with 6 photo plates. Very good.
