Maloney, Rev David M. The Church Cannot Ordain Women To The Priesthood. Franciscan Herald Press : Chicago, Illinois. 1978. First edition.
Published the same year as the second Women’s Ordination Conference in 1978 by David M Maloney, then bishop of Wichita, Kansas, this text asserts the Catholic position that it is against the will of God to ordain women to the priesthood. Building off Pope Paul VI’s 1976 encyclical Inter Insignores which argues, among other things, that women cannot be ordained as priests because they are not created in the image of God, Maloney highlights the separate role for women in the church exemplified by St Teresa of Avila and seeks to answer the question of why Jesus chose to incarnate as a man in the first place.
