Rare Tarot Divination Guide by Noted Occult Illustrator and Manly P Hall Collaborator John Augustus Knapp
Knapp, J.A. The Tarot Cards in Divination. J.A. Knapp. Los Angeles, CA. 1930.
Rare self-published tarot divination guide by John Augustus Knapp (1853 – 1938), noted illustrator, Freemason, and Theosophist.
Knapp famously provided the illustrations for the unusual 1895 esoteric fantasy novel, Etidorhpa, arguably the first examples of American psychedelic art, as well as the illustrations for Manly P Hall’s Secret Teachings Of All Ages. With Hall, he co-created the “Knapp-Hall Tarot” first issued in 1929 and advertised in the present volume.
Interestingly, the provided publisher’s address is given as the Trinity Auditorium in Los Angeles where Hall served as pastor for the Church of the People.
28pp + [2] ads. Staple bound pamphlet in card wraps. Minor wear to wraps. Reading creases. Sunning and former owner’s name in pencil to back wrap. Ownership signature in pencil first free endpaper. Pages toned but clean. Very good.
