First edition of unusual Taoist text translated by a young Teitaro “DT” Suzuki (1870 – 1966), noted Japanese Zen scholar and philosopher during his early association with Paul Carus. Sometimes translated as “Treatise On Response of the Tao”, this later Taoist text (12th century, though traditionally attributed to Lao-Tze) draws on elements of Confucianism and Buddhism to lay out a theory of morality based in the origins of curses and blessings in our good and bad deeds being reported to the heavens and was quite popular in the Ming dynasty. Includes 16 illustrations by Keichyu Yamada.
