Pohl, John. Sorcerers of the Fifth Heaven: Nahua Art and Ritual of Ancient Southern Mexico. Program In Latin American Studies, Princeton University, and Princeton University Art Museum. Princeton, NJ. 2007.

Sorcerers of the Fifth Heaven, an essay by archaeologist and scholar of ancient Mexico, John Pohl, for the art exhibit of the same name held at the Princeton Museum of Art, offers an analysis of various art and ritual artifacts, Spanish writings, and native codices to reconstruct and interpret indigenous sorcery, ritual, and symbolism. In addition to discussion of the Maquiltonaleque deities called on in divination and the traditional use of psychedelic mushrooms the work also traces connections between precontact practices and folk survivals still seen in modern Mexico.

49pp. Oblong. Perfect bound in glossy card wraps. Minor wear bottom edge and corners. Illustrated throughout. Very good.
