Description

Underground Comix Anthology, Radical America Komiks, featuring works from Underground Comix Superstars In Support of S.D.S.

Shelton, Gilbert, et al. Radical America Komiks. Radical America. [???]. 1969. Second Printing.

All-star underground anthology in support of Students For A Democratic Society (S.D.S.), technically serving as the first issue of the third volume of the group’s Radical America magazine. In addition to the cover joke about pro-segregation Georgia governor Lester Maddox, the collection includes early work from Rory Hayes, S Clay Wilson, Frank Stack, and others, including a scarce God Nose strip by Jack Jackson (Jaxon), and an eight-page Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers story from Gilbert Shelton. One of the first dozen commercially printed underground comics, Radical America Komiks is particularly noted for its spread and influence in the Midwest, a precursor and potential inspiration for the movement’s expansion in the region under Denis Kitchen and others.

44pp. Reading creases. Small split at top spine. Minor soiling back wrap. Pages toned but clean. Good.
