Marcha Del Dia Del Trabajo. Partido Laboral Progresista. Boston, Mass. [1971]
Worker’s Day – May Day protest poster from the Spanish speaking Communist group, Partido Laboral Progresista , touting the 100th anniversary of the Paris Commune, the origins of May Day, and the supposed responsibility of Boston landlord Maurice Gordon for the March 30 – 31, 1971 fire at 50 Peterboro St that killed eight people and left 75 displaced.
Accused of substandard safety practices and linked to earlier fires, in graffiti and the local press, particularly the Boston Phoenix, Maurice Gordon earned the moniker “Flash” Gordon (per its inclusion in this poster, the Spanish version is “antorcha”). Although blamed for earlier reports of substandard conditions, Gordon had handed over control of his property company to his son by the time of the Peterboro fire and faced no serious consequences apart from public ire.
No copies found in OCLC as of January 2023.
Single sided broadside. Toning along edges. Some wear and dogearing. Lower right corner missing. Small tear to bottom edge. Very good.
