Description

Self-Published Pseudo-Science Pamphlet Mineral, Vegetable and Animal Life from Creator Of Coral Castle Edward Leedskalnin

Leedskalnin, Edward. Mineral, Vegetable, and Animal Life. The Franklin Press. Miami. 1945.

Self-published philosophy book Mineral, Vegetable and Animal Life by the eccentric creator of Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida Edward Leedskalnin, who moved to the United States from Latvia to live as a hermit after being jilted by his 16-year-old fiancé. He spent the rest of his life quarrying and building today’s Coral Castle—built entirely from coral rock—as his home and workshop, including accommodations for a wife and child although he never married.

Claiming, among other things, that scientists do not understand electricity, atomic structure, or the true nature of magnetism, in this short text, Leedskalnin redefines life as the holding together of matter, meaning all things—including his perpetual motion holder, depicted on the front wrap—are alive, just in states of creation or destruction. Leedskalnin further claims that photosynthesis is not caused by chlorophyll but magnets, which are also what allows the human body to move its muscles and are derived from diet. With not quite self-awareness, Leedskalnin states in his conclusion, “If I had studied chemistry and human anatomy I am sure I could tell you more about our body functions.”
