Description
A study on illegitimate children and their parents published in post-War Great Britain
Illegitimate Children And Their Parents, edited by Lena M. Jeger. London : National Council For The Unmarried Mother And Her Child. 1951.
An unusual publication from the UK’s National Council For The Unmarried Mother and Her Child on the laws concerning illegitimate children, this short text covers the classifications of and considerations for unwanted or unrecognized minors under British law. Written during the post-war increase in abandoned and unwanted children, the text strives, in part, to clarify the numerous rights “foundlings” have acquired since the late 19th century. In addition to covering disability, foster care, national insurance, and welfare grants, the treatise also includes entries on children born infected by venereal diseases and the contemporary death rates of unwanted infants.
Small 8vo, pp72, printed paper wrapped boards. Some wear to edges and spine ends. Corners bumped. Small scratch to fore edge, text block and pages toned. Former booksellers stamp on front pastedown. Good condition.
