Description
A Colorful History of the Philosophy of Medicine with Details on Alchemy, Astrology, and other esoteric subjects.
Turley, L.A. The History Of The Philosophy Of Medicine. University of Oklahoma Press : Norman. 1935.
A history of the philosophy of medicine focused on the evolution of scientific theories and framing philosophies over time with discussion and details on astrology and astrological medicine, medical alchemy , disease as a symptom of spirit possession, trepanation (the boring or cutting of a hole in the skull, arguably mankind’s first surgery, practiced by many human groups since ancient times), and more. Though considerable detail is provided in the overview, it is a skeptical treatment that views these approaches as superstitions better left in the past. (Interestingly, trepanation is still performed in medical contexts to relieve swelling and pressure on the brain, and also by some advocates who believe it alters or even heightens their consciousness).
43pp, perfect bound in printed wraps. Wear with creasing to edges. Corners worn. Minor spotting to wraps, back pastedown and endpapers, and some pages. Otherwise clean. Very good.
