Scarce copy of “From The Land Of The Pharaohs: The Wonderful Discoveries and Excavations In Egypt” by Danish Assyriologist, priest and Orientalist Gert Howardy, reviewed by Professor Valdemar Schmidt, founder of the Egyptology collection at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptote art museum in Copenhagen and the first academic Egyptologist in Denmark.

A history of Ancient Egypt and its early modern excavations, the text includes a list of biblical references to Egypt, a timeline of Egyptian dynasties, and numerous illustrations, diagrams, and photographs of pyramids, sarcophagi, tomb layouts, and various Egyptologists.

Howardy, who received his doctorate in 1910, is most famous for his 1933 work on cuneiform, Clavis Cuneorum. He died in 1935.

8vo, 170pp, three-quarter bound barbled boards. Wear to leather along corners and spine hinges. Fore corners rubbed. Darkening and minor losses to leather at spine ends. Bookblock edge dyed red with occasional minor bleeding to top interior margins. Marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Pages clean. Illustrated throughout with black and white diagrams, maps, and photographs. Includes color frontispiece of the pyramid of Cheops. Good condition.
