Description
Well preserved early UFO book, Flying Saucers On The Attack by Harold T Wilkins, owned by Jim Bishop Fawcett Gold Medal Editor Involved In UFO Controversy
Wilkins, Harold T. Flying Saucers On The Attack. Citadel Press : New York. 1954. First edition, Association Copy.
A highly influential book in the early UFO publishing craze written by British author Harold T Wilkins, Flying Saucers On The Attack gathers reports of flying saucers from recent years, including WWII Foo Fighters and an early reference to the Roswell incident, as part of Wilkins’ argument that the unknown craft are piloted by hostile extraterrestrials. This copy was owned by Jim Bishop, journalist and editor at Fawcett Gold Medal Books who worked with Major Donald E Keyhoe for a year ahead of the publication of The Flying Saucers Are Real (1950). In May of that year, Bishop told reporters that the government was exerting pressure to keep the book from publication and that members of the Defense community had given Keyhoe various false leads and bad tips “the closer he got to a solution of the flying saucer reports”.
329pp, 8vo, black boards. Shelfcocked, bumping and rubbing at corners and spine ends. Text block and pages toned but clean. Presentation inscription on first free endpaper. Good.
