Description
Rare self-published edition of the Theosophy classic Esoteric Buddhism by AP Sinnett printed by controversial chiropractor and printer Robert Glenn Wilborn of Health Research
Sinnett, A.P. Esoteric Buddhism. Health Research. Mokelumne Hill, California. 1969.
The original “Esoteric Buddhism” was first published by the Theosophical Publishing Society in 1893 and is considered a seminal text in the Theosophical movement. Written by A.P. Sinnett, a British journalist and prominent member of the Theosophical Society, “Esoteric Buddhism” presents an overview of the teachings of Buddhism and the belief there is a deeper, more mystical version available before quickly turning to Theosophy.
In Esoteric Buddhism, Sinnett delves into topics such as the nature of the soul, the afterlife, and the role of the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom, who are believed to be highly advanced spiritual beings that have attained enlightenment. He also discusses the idea of reincarnation and the law of karma, which states that our actions in this life determine our fate in future lives. The book also covers the concept of the “astral plane,” which is believed to be a realm of existence beyond the physical world where souls reside after death.
This edition, a self-published mimeograph copy of the revised eighth edition published in 1918, is a typical example of the work of controversial chiropractor and printer Robert Glenn Wilborn who operated his publishing house “Health Research” out of his California home. Assisted by his nurse practitioner wife Mary and various volunteers, through Health Research Wilborn focused on creating affordable copies of rare and out-of-print materials on health, spirituality, the hollow earth, and other esoteric subjects.
248pp, spiral bound mimeograph in green wraps. Wear to spine hinges and wrap edges. Some highlighting. Good condition.
