Beall, Trish and Northwood, Bill. East Bay Bridge And Freedom News Vol 1. No. 6. Richmond, CA. September 13-26, 1974.
An early issue of Richmond, California based underground newspaper East Bay Bridge and Freedom News. This issue offers coverage of the completion of the Transbay Tunnel marking the total opening of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system as well as an overview of the project’s troubled and long-delayed development. The issue also includes an interview with noted film director Robert Altman (M*A*S*H, The Long Goodbye) following off his gambling buddy comedy, California Split, also released in 1974. Editor Bill Northwood was also the news editor for KPFA radio in Berkeley, noted for its coverage of the Symbionese Liberation Army crimes and the kidnapping of Patty Hearst (In May 1974, Northwood was questioned over how the studio received tape recordings from the SLA broadcast by the network).
20pp, folded newsprint folio. Some spotting at external folds. Labelled for mail. Pages toned but clean. Very good.
