Membres de la Commission des Moeurs et Coutumes du Cambodge. Ceremonies Privees Des Cambodgiens. Editions De L’Institut Bouddhique : Phnom-Penh. 1958. First edition.
This thoroughly detailed French language guide to the native religious beliefs, rituals and ceremonies of Cambodia was published 5 years into Cambodian independence by the Institut Bouddhique as one of a series of monographs. A collaboration primarily overseen by French Ethnologist Dr. Eveline Poree-Maspero the text includes treatments on astrology, numerology, and auspicious timings, the symbolism of various animals, as well as funerary and marriage rites and beliefs surrounding childbirth, demonstrating a complex cultural melange that blends more formal Buddhism with earlier animistic spiritual practices.
