First paperback edition, released simultaneously with the hardcover, of the catalogue Africa In Antiquity produced for the Brooklyn Museum exhibition of ancient African art of the same name. Volume One consists of essays by William Y Adams, Bruce G. Trigger, Ahmed M Ali Hakem, David O’Connor, Jean LeClart, Karil Heinz-Preise and Fritz Hintze, on Nubia, the kingdom of Kush, the Ballau culture and the region’s relationship with Egypt and the rise of Christianity. Volume Two provides a full history of Nubian art from prehistory through the middle ages written by the cataloguer and exhibition designer, Steffen Wenig, followed by a full photographic catalogue of the various objects and artifacts included in the exhibition.
