The author, Dr. Hendrick Ruitenbeek, was a noted Freudian psychoanalyst and early supporter of gay rights, specifically the recognition of homosexuality , not as a disease, but an acceptable sexual orientation. A fellow of the American Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, his other works included ”The Male Myth,” ”The New Sexuality,” ”The Problem of Homosexuality and Modern Society”.
