This reprint of Richard Phelps’ Newgate of Connecticut , details the history of the East Granby Revolutionary War prison and copper mining labor camp established in the state for the imprisonment of local loyalists. First published in Hartford in 1876, this reissue marks the purchase of the Old Newgate Prison site and its ruins by local political hopeful Clarence W Seymour who inherited the original plates for Phelps publication, along with his purchase of the Newgate property, from Phelps’ son.

8vo, 117pp, red cloth boards with title gilt to front, minor spots of rubbing to faces. Top fore corners bumped. Spine ends rubbed. Illustrated with occasional inline engravings. Very good condition.
